We get the most out of spent grain
Biograin is the natural and most climate-friendly choice.

Fertiliser and Biogas
Ethics and sustainability
Fertiliser
Better than paid disposal
Loss-making for the supplier
Can only be applied for short periods

Biogas
A clutch solution, when the spent grain is too wet for other uses, or for handling sudden spikes in production
Spent grain is not a particularly profitable ingredient for biogas production, as the starch has already been taken out as best as possible in the beer brewing process

Pet food
Rich in fiber and protein
Not a natural part of most pet diets

Pig feed
Particularly good for stabilising the stomach, especially in piglets
The feed value is roughly half of that for cattle, and pigs don't gain enough weight, as it is simply too healthy

Cattle feed
Generally just really good as cattle feed
Large transport costs
Requires stable delivery otherwise fluctuations in milk yield

Insect feed
Best use of spent grain for animal proteins
Sales opportunities are still in the start-up phase and production is generally at a very small stage

Fiberboard and furniture
Allows for strong composite fiberboard
High energy costs that literally converts food to construction material

Human use, dried
Can easily be used in many different foods
Very large energy costs to evaporate the water so the spent grain it is storage stable
It can be a health challenge if the time from spent grain filter to drying is too long as pathogenic bacteria will develop uncontrolled
When drying, the pathogenic bacterial development is put on hold
When water is added back during the manufacturing process, the pathogenic bacterial development continues from the stage from which it was put on hold by the drying

Human use, wet
Virtually direct use in many foods, and for "Stop Hunger"
No development of pathogenic bacteria
Rich in fiber and protein
The quality and type of malt must be uniform, not all spent grain can be used immediately for all food products
